Fire Service Charity Three Peaks Challenge 2009

This years three peaks challenge was the usual combination of pre work study groups to prepair us for the day, non-stop endless treatments of completely knackered walkers in various states of depletion, and a fish and chips supper to finish! This year saw less A&E visits than last but due to the exceptionally hot weather one or two cases of heat exhastion/dehydration. A condition that should not be underestimated. As can be seen from the above picture, the 'legs up the wall' yoga posture, (viparita karani), can be performed in the field much to the disbelief of many of my patients! This is an effective way to drain the legs of wastes and inflamation and can lead into various safe, comfortable and efficient hamstring stretches.

Welsh Two Day Motorbike Enduro 2009

This challenge involved Restore providing exclusive support for a local Shrewsbury Motorcross team of varrying abilities. The team were evidently pretty competant riders with one or two exceptional riders who went on to gain a high place in the results table overall. The weather was dry most of the time but a monsoon towards the end of the race ensured the riders got a good dose of mud! Fortunately the well stocked base camp came complete with a hot tub that meant at the end of a long days riding participants could enjoy a hot bath followed by a recovery sports massage. Does it get any better? This was an extreme event - a rider in sidecar combination rig even broke an arm but carried on regardless thanks to good old duck tape! Between massages I was able to accompany the team around the course assisting with the pit stops and doing a couple of track side treatments for sore necks and hands.

The White Rose Challenge 2009

The white rose challenge was a 133km road cycle event of great popularity. Over 20 riders (in a row!) opted for recovery sports massage meaning a gruelling day for both the participants and the solo massage therapist! Sports massage was enthusiastically recieved and is clearly highly appreciated by cyclists. And who can blame them after a circuit like that! Don't worry, i'll be there again next year!
